‘Loose Ends’ Paintings Continued
A Private Collection For Facebook, Shaftesbury Avenue
LONDON — 10 May, 2019. For immediate release.
Set to open in the coming weeks, Facebook will occupy a new 190,000sq.ft building located in the heart of London’s West End and leased in entirety via WeWork.
From the bustle of Shaftesbury Avenue, the double-aspect glass lobby provides a glimpse of the initial 10x4.5m ‘Loose Ends’ painting; part of a collection of site-specific works that perhaps reflects Facebook’s ambition. These latest works are a hand-painted expression of shape, form and cultural collisions whilst exploring the tension between art and design on a huge scale.
The works are offered as a rich and expansive vocabulary of both formal and conceptual qualities. Viewers bring their own experiences to art and it becomes communicative. A simple form or colour can generate a complex chain of associations, be it people, places, smells, sounds. These disjointed signifiers become a vessel for telling a story as a weirdly colourful and complex arrangement.
