Andy Welland Studio

Kaleidoscopic rainbows collide, prints sing and pink is everything in the world of Andy Welland. Serving as the new contemporary artist for the next generation, Welland has an extensive background working with luxury brands and curated retailers. His work–always graphic in nature–but never constrained to one medium–has appeared in the form of brightly abstract paintings, sculptures and product packaging in Selfridges, Liberty London, Lush and Anthropologie, among others.

Raised in Doncaster, U.K., by a trio of strong women with an appreciation for creativity, Welland’s mum, grandmother and auntie informed his initial interest in art. Welland kicked off his career with a degree in Fine Arts from Sheffield Hallam in 2007, before joining the luxury division of M&C Saatchi, and working across various boutique design studios in his native UK. His background is in graphic design–and that’s what adds to his neverending visual collages of shapes, colours and forms. Inspired by his childhood imagination and nature, his focus is on creating high-quality work that is luxuriously colourful, also collaborating with LVMH and Amazon. At the end of the day, his mission is all about optimism; to spark joy through artwork.

”I create works that celebrate the idea of togetherness, connecting and being human. My work is informed by cultures, people and ideas coming together as a collage of positive energy, shape and form and embracing imperfection”.

Andy’s visual language is one of bright playful collages and colliding shapes. A remix of form; his distinctively abstract compositions are created from repurposed off-cuts, thoughts, sound and movement. The work is a celebration of what it is to be human as we navigate and make sense of this chaotic world together.

“My painted spots aren't perfect spots but they are my spots. A recording of my movement that day and my style, drips, wobbles and all”. Contrary to the way we consume imagery today, Andy’s work encourages us to be slow, thoughtful of craft and delight in detail up close.
