Dynamic Branding

What would an artistic expression look like for an inner-city flower market?
In the lockdown of 2020 I was approached to help create an identity and branding for Pollen.

Pollen Market is an inner-city flower market in the heart of Sheffield and is part of Sheffield City Council’s Grey to Green initiative. Based in the historical Castlegate area of the city, Pollen celebrates local produce, greenery, music, art and all things botanical. This monthly event is a vibrant expression of our independent spirit and positivity in Sheffield. The Pollen team were given a collection of graphic elements and assets that they could use to create their own expressions that could evolve through the seasons whilst having the ability to adapt across various media from screen to physical application.

This dynamic system is also designed to work with typography and photography with ease and continues to grow.

Origin

Grey to Green is a groundbreaking environmental and economic development strategy. Sheffield was built on rivers. Grey to Green's innovative drainage system reconnects this part of the city with them, flowing rainwater back to rivers in a way that mimics nature – cleanly, slowly, sustainably.

Through collaboration with the universities, businesses, and local communities. A green Sheffield is a Sheffield fit for the future. A distinctive, attractive green environment is also an incentive for economic investment – creating a beautiful place to live, work and play. Improved cycling and walking routes help Sheffield keep fit, clean its air, and keeps us connected.

A key component of this strategy is to forge a new home for art, nature and wildlife to co-exist and develop new placemaking opportunities.
